The updated visitor visa rules apply to all tourists, family visitors, and partners or guardians on longer-term visas. However, there are important limitations to note. Only remote work for foreign employers is permitted under the new rules. Visitors whose employment requires them to be physically present in New Zealand—such as sales representatives, performers, or those working for New Zealand-based employers—must still obtain the appropriate work visas.
Additionally, the government advises that anyone planning to work remotely for more than 90 days should consider potential tax implications. This ensures that visitors remain compliant with New Zealand’s tax laws while enjoying the flexibility of remote work.
